The Battle Ground High School band could march in the Portland Rose Parade only if they marched with a float.

The float was also entered to celebrate 100 years since the non-battle between US Calvary, Captain Strong and Chief Umtuch in 1855.

Mr. and Mrs. R.E. Nash rode in a 1905 buggy that was covered in Esther Reed daisies.

The 15-year-old horse pulling the shay was called "Connie". The shay was owned by Nash's of Vancouver. It was taken to the parade aboard one of John Cresap's trucks.
