Trivia
-
In celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Rose Parade, Battle Ground chose to replicate a 1907 Council Crest Trolley car reduced to ½ size. It was designed by David Rowe of Battle Ground. The trolley had a working headlight, an authentic Trolley bell and a sparking light on the end of the Trolley pole representing electric motive power, a novel idea in 1907!
-
The trolley was decorated in poppy seed, cedar shavings , onion seed, "skeleton leaves", and was accented with fresh red carnations and white daisies. The "Belgian block" cobble stones for the road under the trolley were made with a variety of seeds. The brick walls were made of dried red rose petals and grey painted ground rice.
-
The back of the float was decorated with a real "Rose Garden", where the new "BG Bee" took flight.
-
Toward the front of the trolley was a full-sized "Benson Bubbler" drinking fountain decorated with seaweed and onion skins.
-
Portraits of long time Battle Ground Rose Float volunteers filled the windows.
-
Beautiful floral baskets hung from the 1907 street lights that actually lit.
-
The trolley motorman was Neal Berlin, who is a current operator of the Portland Vintage Trolleys.
-
The Princesses were dressed in authentic 1907 era dresses and hats, which were part of our centennial theme.
