Trivia
-
This year we didn't know if we could have a building to build the float in
-
The gazebo at the rear of the float was built at the home of Dave Rowe as the Battle Ground Flex building was still under construction
-
The gazebo represented the cities of Clark County where some of the many volunteers for the Battle Ground Float come from. Each city's logo was replicated to make up a panel for the gazebo walls. Vancouver, Washougal, Camas, Yacolt-Amboy, Woodland, La Center and Ridgefield were represented.
-
The gingerbread people are the wonderful volunteers coming from Clark County to help with the Float in Battle Ground. They are crossing the bridge made of wood cookies and moss with carnation curbing, that leads to the Portland Rose Festival.
-
There were 19 large pansies made from burlap-covered pencil rod, decorated with straw flowers, painted rice, onion seed and herbs
-
The deck was covered with sod and the brick walls were made from dried rose petals and Madrona bark. Cedar branchse were used for the skirting on the float.
Fun Facts
-
There were over 6,000 stems of flowers used on the float. 2,875 of which were roses.
-
The tip top of the gazebo was a flax seed covered Basketball.
-
Our very experienced driver navigated the float with the use of two mounted cameras which went out before the end of the parade. He then had to rely on the guides who talked with two way radios to him, "left, left, more left". There were only a few people in the crowds that got a bit concerned when the "more left" wasn't fast enough.
-
Two other floats had mechanical problems and had to be towed through the parade route and one 1959 convertible had to be pushed to get started.
