Trivia

• This year's float "Buzzing with Spirit" had an 8'6" diameter red coconut-covered Rose. Its leaves and hip were covered in Ti Leaves and its stem covered with parsley.
• Over 200 cups of red-dyed coconut covered with Rose.
• The 6' Bee was covered with yellow cushion mums and black onion seeds. The bee "buzzed" around in a circle in front of the rose while holding a rose bud in its hand. Mums were in short supply this year and a last minute dash was made to obtain enough to finish the Bee.
• The 5 trellises on board were covered with Birch Bark collected from local trees,ivy and orange roses.
• Nine colorful butterflies were self-animated by the movement of the float. They were covered with status flowers, flax seed, onion seed, red lentils and hand-colored angel wings.
• There were 30 lady bugs covered with red rice and onion seed scattered about.
• On the back of the float was a Memorial to Brian Adams. Brian graduated from Battle Ground High School and donated a lot of his free time to BG Rose Float before enlisting in the Marine Corp. Brian died in November, 2009.
• The garden rock wall was made of a mixture of flax seed, nyjer thistle and spring wheat.
• This year the chassis was updated with a color camera system, power steering and a new sound system.
• A steering linkage failure happened when the float entered the Coliseum. It was towed past the Channel 8 TV broadcast podium without TV viewers noticing a problem. The princesses hopped off the disabled float and caught up with the Battle Ground Marching Band, walking the entire 5 mile route in front of cheering crowds.
